Talking Points

The following are talking points for the 3.2 release. If you want to help promote GNOME 3.2 to friends and colleagues, you can use this information. It will also be useful for the release notes notes.

Polishing and Refining 3.0

Lots of minor improvements to the 3.0 release give a smoother more refined experience.

Includes:

  • Refinements to the visual theme, including nicely rendered window corners
  • Easier window resizing
  • Clearer presentation of unfocused windows
  • Improved System Information and Region and Language System Settings panels

Fully Integrated Messaging

Messaging is now fully integrated into GNOME 3: no need to run a separate chat application.

Means that a GNOME 3 device is a fully functional messaging device.

Starting the GNOME 3 Application Story

3.2 introduces the building blocks for new GNOME application experiences and introduces several new GNOME applications.

3.0 introduced the core of the GNOME 3 user experience. From 3.2, the GNOME project is starting to introduce new, modern GNOME applications that will deeply integrate with the GNOME 3 experience and which are designed for modern users.

  • New GNOME Contacts framework
  • GNOME Contacts application
  • Integrates with GNOME Online Accounts - will automatically sync with your online contacts
  • Integrated - searchable from the Activities Overview
  • More integration to come in future releases

Documents

  • A simple and effective way to manage your documents without having to deal with the hassle of nested folders
  • Online integration enables you to search documents that are held in the cloud as well as local content

GNOME Going to the Cloud with GNOME Online Accounts

  • A new facility being introduced for 3.2.
  • Provides integration with online services for the system and for applications
  • Enables online integration to be a key feature of future GNOME application
  • GNOME Online Accounts (GOA) is the first step in making GNOME fully integrated with cloud services.
  • New GNOME applications like GNOME Documents and GNOME Contacts will take advantage of GOA to seamlessly integrate with your online content.
