GNOME 3.2 Marketing
This is the planning page for promoting the GNOME 3.2 release. Please get in touch with the marketing team if you want to help (see the main marketing page for information).
GNOME 3.2 has been released, but we still need to keep on promoting it! Many of the activities in how to help are ongoing. Please help out.
Tasks
Please get in touch with the marketing team (through the usual channels) if you are interested in doing any of these activities. Many of them are not too labour intensive and make a big difference.
Must Haves
These are the absolute essential things that have to happen when the release occurs:
Release Notes - AndreKlapper, Sri, AllanDay, OlavVitters
- Press Release
- Would be good to include links to digital media in this
- Someone needs to take charge of getting quotations from key individuals
- Responding to press enquiries
Take down www.gnome3.org and redirect traffic to http://www.gnome.org/gnome-3/
- Update www.gnome.org
- New home page banner
- Announcement things (need to coordinate with Fred P)
- Fred P email
- www.gnome.org news item
- Social media (Identi.ca./Twitter/Facebook)
(Really) Nice to Haves
Many of these tasks are really important and we should try to cover as many of them as possible:
- Live Images
- Videos
- Banners and badges for blogs and websites
- Preview posts - 'Things to look forward to in GNOME 3.2', or posts on specific features like GNOME Online Accounts or GNOME Contacts
- Social media hype before and after the release
Taken from 3.0 lessons learned:
- Online events on release day. It would have been great to have organised something that our users could have participated in.
- Join Help A Reporter Out (HARO) months before the launch, build reporter database
- Target and build relationships with key journalists ahead of time
- Have a real press kit set up: press release, infographics, screencasts, photos of developers, potted history
- Run a rapid-response team to fight misinformation in blog, forum, Reddit comments
- Arrange interviews with key developers with the press
