glasseyes evening all

edtrager Hi, everyone

pjrm ed: Now that you've gone and quoted me in that paper, I've had to check my facts :) .

glasseyes <various times of day> all even ;)

pjrm It appears that OOo and Scribus don't use incompatible formats for hyphenation dictionaries.

pjrm Scribus does store its hyphenation dictionaries with CRLF line endings whereas OOo uses plain LF, but it appears from the code that scribus should be able to read OOo hdicts without a problem.

pjrm I haven't tested though.

* avox was more careful and didn't give Ed any facts ;-))

behdad hi emader

* glasseyes is Daniel Glassey, linux porter for graphite and volunteer for SIL

edtrager pjrm: Sorry, can't change the paper now. Just change the code in scribus so that my paper will be correct, OK :-)

* avox is Andreas Vox, Scribus developer

pjrm :)

edtrager Ed is maintainer of unifont.org

* avox thinks pjrm has a problem now :-)

Oct 04 18:47:58 Zogje cheerleader even

Oct 04 18:48:01 * ThomasZ hands Zogje some pompons

Oct 04 18:48:12 edtrager Looks like I'm chair accd to glasseyes. Who else wants to introduce selve who hasn't yet done so ... only 3 minutes left before we won't allow any introductions

Oct 04 18:48:24 * nim-nim is Nicolas Mailhot, dejavu fonts Fedora Extras packager

Oct 04 18:48:29 yosch hi everyone

Oct 04 18:48:33 * sunilmohan|HOME is a from Swecha GNU/Linux Telugu localisation project

Oct 04 18:49:29 sunilmohan|HOME edtrager: thank you

Oct 04 18:51:02 * simosx is Simos Xenitellis, Greek L10n project

Oct 04 18:52:01 edtrager I think a couple of people have not yet intro'd selves : While waiting, let's get started: Primary agenda item today is to settle the order and duration of sessions listed on http://live.gnome.org/Boston2006/TextLayout

Oct 04 18:52:21 nim-nim hi simosx good to read you again

Oct 04 18:52:48 * moyogo (n=moyogo@69pc222.sshunet.nl) has joined ##fonts

Oct 04 18:53:06 edtrager Is everyone ready to get started?

Oct 04 18:53:37 moyogo moyogo: Denis Jacquerye from Dejavu fonts

Oct 04 18:56:17 edtrager Perhaps we can discuss duration of the talks first, that might be fairly easy to tackle. Are the owners of the various talks OK with the durations as posted by glasseyes on the TextLayout page?

Oct 04 18:56:47 behdad I think those talks marked as 1hr and 3hr are too long compared to other ones

Oct 04 18:56:59 behdad I suggest we go for all 45min talks

Oct 04 18:57:17 * victory741 (n=vic@71.93.12.6) has joined ##fonts

Oct 04 18:57:17 behdad as in starting a new session every 45 mins

Oct 04 18:57:21 tronical yeah, how about we move the unified layout engine to the end and have it as open discussion?

Oct 04 18:57:27 behdad talks can be as short as 10 mins, the rest discussion

Oct 04 18:57:30 emader I think the UnifiedTextLayoutEngine talk will need more than 45 minutes.

Oct 04 18:57:44 behdad moreover, people can continue discussion of the previous session and not attend a specific session if they are not interested in

Oct 04 18:57:57 glasseyes yep, that's why UnifiedTextLayoutEngine is (arbitrarily) 3hrs

Oct 04 18:58:00 behdad emader: that can be left as the last session in the day

Oct 04 18:58:15 behdad but allocating 3hrs, I think some people will be bored

Oct 04 18:58:17 * Zogje (n=bastian@jffwpr05.jf.intel.com) has left ##fonts

Oct 04 18:58:17 * tronical thinks 30min is good though - we can still stretch individual sessions as we go

Oct 04 18:58:24 * Zogje (n=bastian@jffwpr05.jf.intel.com) has joined ##fonts

Oct 04 18:58:25 emader That's good. Esp. since I'm six hours earlier than Boston. ;-)

Oct 04 18:58:31 behdad heh

Oct 04 18:58:59 glasseyes behdad: ok, let's try to split it up into subsections or something

Oct 04 18:59:02 * maiku (n=mike@p5493D432.dip.t-dialin.net) has joined ##fonts

Oct 04 18:59:15 avox what about splitting the UnifTextLayout session? one normal session to get started earlier on Sunday, second part as open disc. later

Oct 04 18:59:17 edtrager I'm going to edit the page now as we talk : first I'll move UnifiedTextLayout to the end of Sunday. How about posting just 2 hours for UnifiedkTextLayout?

Oct 04 18:59:25 glasseyes btw I have to leave at about 1800 to catch my flight back so I would prefer it to not finish too late ;)

Oct 04 19:00:03 edtrager What do people think of avox's idea to split it?

Oct 04 19:00:08 emader Two hours seems like enough time to get a good start :-)

Oct 04 19:00:19 behdad avox: agreed. a presentation by ed to introduce his ideas first, and discussion later at the end of the day

Oct 04 19:00:36 edtrager avox: You mean one normal session followed directly by discussion, or some other intervening sessions?

Oct 04 19:00:41 glasseyes avox: good idea

Oct 04 19:00:58 avox intervening sessions. give people time to think

Oct 04 19:01:20 emader (in my experience, that only leads to trouble ;-)

Oct 04 19:01:48 edtrager Actually, I really think that it is not just going to be my ideas. I think pjrm and Behdad others have very specific ideas on this stuff too.

Oct 04 19:02:35 behdad edtrager: that's why I said one session that you present, another that we all discuss

Oct 04 19:02:39 avox me, too :-)

Oct 04 19:03:56 edtrager My suggestion then is to have the two sessions contiguous, no intervening stuff. Ca marche?

Oct 04 19:04:24 emader I think we're going to need a *lot* of discussion on this - probably way more than we can do in one day. I don't have a strong feeling one way or the other about splitting into two sessions.

Oct 04 19:04:30 * thorsten (i=thb@nat/sun/x-a6f3219f0abf2dfb) has joined ##fonts

Oct 04 19:04:36 avox with break? How realistic is such a long session at the end of the summit?

Oct 04 19:04:50 * victory741 has quit (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))

Oct 04 19:04:51 emader Contigous sounds good.

Oct 04 19:04:59 avox not to me...

Oct 04 19:05:00 ThomasZ Well, if we have a session chair that can direct things, then I'd see it as a possibility to have a big slot and make up progress as we go.

Oct 04 19:05:26 edtrager Yes, with break. So contiguous with break in middle.

Oct 04 19:06:01 ThomasZ Where the chair just lets people talk that want to talk and keeps watch on time to do any break out sessions or other discussions as time allows.

Oct 04 19:06:14 edtrager ThomasZ: Yes, my idea as well. Big slot written on schedule as two slots with break in the middle.

Oct 04 19:06:27 * victory741 (n=vic@71.93.12.6) has joined ##fonts

Oct 04 19:06:29 emader Sounds good.

Oct 04 19:07:10 avox you all feel up to discuss this topic for 2-3 hours without getting tired?

Oct 04 19:07:19 pjrm The choice of split vs contiguous may depend on how neatly we can split it into disjoint subjects.

Oct 04 19:07:29 pjrm I don't think that the intro/discussion split is a good one.

Oct 04 19:07:37 * tronical agrees with pjrm

Oct 04 19:07:51 emader This topic is the vision I've been thinking about for several years, so I'm up for a long discussion!

Oct 04 19:08:18 glasseyes tronical, ThomasZ: Sunday looks rather full, since you aren't there Sat, which of the Sunday things can be moved to Sat

Oct 04 19:08:20 avox 'k, I was just checking

Oct 04 19:08:37 edtrager Personally I don't want to talk for 1 whole hour on it ... I'll be happy to quickly run over a few of my ideas to start things off. Then I'd like to see what others ideas are.

Oct 04 19:08:41 tronical glasseyes: FontConfigOverview is fine for me to move to sunday

Oct 04 19:09:17 * Zogje (n=bastian@jffwpr05.jf.intel.com) has left ##fonts

Oct 04 19:09:29 glasseyes tronical: thanks

Oct 04 19:09:53 avox I could talk ~10 min about a layered architecture, some ideas I already put on the /UnifedTextLayout page

Oct 04 19:10:40 * tronical would love to see the IndicOpenTypeVista and the Scribus though :} - but I guess I could bug avox and behdad to tell me a bit about it besides the talks on sunday evening or monday, too :)

Oct 04 19:10:45 * gaumann (n=greg@221.216.139.50) has joined ##fonts

Oct 04 19:10:58 glasseyes if we go around the table and everyone is asked for their brief thoughts on the subject that will take up a lot of time, but I think it would be a good idea - that could be the first hour, then we would use that aws a basis for discussion

Oct 04 19:11:04 glasseyes good morning gaumann :)

Oct 04 19:11:11 gaumann morning

Oct 04 19:11:21 behdad tronical: I actually don't know about the Vista thing. emader knows, but he's not coming :(

Oct 04 19:11:28 pjrm What is the nature of the unification we want to try? E.g. the most basic question, are we keeping the existing pango,qt,icu APIs as interfaces to whatever unified code (and adding a couple of functions for the completely new stuff) ?

Oct 04 19:11:38 tronical behdad: ah, thought it was you. hmm. do you know any details? any pointers on the web?

Oct 04 19:12:01 ThomasZ glasseyes: I have no problem with FontConfigOverview moving either

Oct 04 19:12:09 glasseyes gaumann: introduce yourself to everyone please :)

Oct 04 19:12:23 behdad tronical: it's all being discussed on the OpenType list, which doesn't have any public archives.

Oct 04 19:12:26 gaumann SIL, interested in East Asian scripts

Oct 04 19:13:01 emader (I can put together a summary of what's on the OpenType list, if folks want.)

Oct 04 19:13:09 behdad tronical: I know how it's implemented. it was changed recently actually to use a separate script code such that fonts can provide both old-style and new-style tables.

Oct 04 19:13:24 behdad tronical: emader said he's got some code working with new fonts

Oct 04 19:13:30 emader Yes. The ICU code now works on Vista w/ the Vista fonts! :-)

Oct 04 19:13:40 behdad great!

Oct 04 19:13:56 tronical ah, I see

Oct 04 19:14:04 behdad emader: an important goal of mine actually is to get pango's shaper synched back to ICU's

Oct 04 19:14:27 emader My code never worked w/ the new-style fonts. Couldn't get enough info about what was different. They recently made changes to provide old- and new-style tables in the same font. using different script tags.

Oct 04 19:14:38 behdad emader: we diverged a lot, and in most cases the fixes we made are not as good as the ones you would have made given the bug

Oct 04 19:15:04 edtrager A rough split of "UnifiedTextLayout" could be (1) Unifying shaping at the TextSegment level and (2) Everything else. I think some here have already expressed their belief and will agree that unified shaping is the first and most critical peice, and HarfBuzz is already making this a partial reality, right?

Oct 04 19:15:05 behdad emader: I see.

Oct 04 19:15:06 emader Ideally, I'd like to see everyone working on the same codebase.

Oct 04 19:15:19 behdad emader: yeah, that's the goal.

Oct 04 19:15:26 emader (We're getting into Sunday's topics now...)

Oct 04 19:15:27 tronical edtrager: right

Oct 04 19:15:56 ThomasZ Can someone tell me what "HarfBuzzShaper" is?

Oct 04 19:15:57 behdad emader: I've not checked the OpenType Layout implementation in ICU, but the shapers look like they can be pretty much shared if it wasn't because of the special C++ syntax

Oct 04 19:16:35 behdad ThomasZ: it's the idea of pushing the script OpenType shapers (Arabic, Indic, ...) down into the HarfBuzz library such that Pango and Qt share them

Oct 04 19:16:41 avox HarfBuzz is common code from Freetype, Pango and Qt

Oct 04 19:16:45 behdad (and ICU someday maybe)

Oct 04 19:16:49 avox OpenType font support

Oct 04 19:17:12 ThomasZ ah, thanks

Oct 04 19:17:20 edtrager ThomasZ: That is the OpenType handling code from FreeType which was forked out in Pango and Qt, now re-unified

Oct 04 19:17:28 avox but a unified shaper should not be OTF specific, yes?

Oct 04 19:18:01 emader We should consider supporting the Apple fonts too. (used to be QuickDraw GX, don't remember what it's called now...)

Oct 04 19:18:11 glasseyes AAT?

Oct 04 19:18:13 edtrager avox: Absolutely correct! IMO it must now think about Graphite being incorporated. And AAT

Oct 04 19:18:53 behdad it shouldn't be hard to come up with a buffer API that supports OpenType, AAT, and Graphite all together

Oct 04 19:18:55 edtrager So this is UnifiedTextLayout, Part I : Unified Shaping

Oct 04 19:18:56 emader ("AAT", that's it!) And Graphite too, yes. We should be able to work w/ everyone's smart fonts.

Oct 04 19:19:21 avox 'k, so we already have the vision for part one .-)

Oct 04 19:19:28 emader :-)

Oct 04 19:19:28 glasseyes graphite is important but we need to think about how that will work as the graphite objects aren't useful just for shaping (I'll hopefully have a presentation on that when I get the info)

Oct 04 19:19:34 glasseyes anyway ...

Oct 04 19:20:11 glasseyes edtrager: can you commit what you have on the wiki so far so we can see it

Oct 04 19:21:05 glasseyes also, sharoncorrell (the main graphite developer who was one of the people doing the clever stuff) can be there on Sun eve and Mon, will people be around that would like to talk to her as she would like to know if it is worth coming?

Oct 04 19:21:51 avox I'll be there

Oct 04 19:21:56 edtrager glasseyes: right! HarfBuzz cannot be just about shaping. It also must expose the functionality for very smart cursor/caret placement and highlighting of components within ligatures

Oct 04 19:22:39 glasseyes I'll also mention font features

Oct 04 19:22:48 ThomasZ glasseyes: I'll be there on sun+mon. If she is interrested in talking to a lowly word-processor writer ;)

Oct 04 19:22:55 edtrager glasseyes: I committed, but I've not yet changed much, just put

Oct 04 19:23:11 gaumann sharon might also be able to talk a bit about font testing

Oct 04 19:23:16 edtrager UnifiedTextLayout at the end.

Oct 04 19:23:53 edtrager Having Sharon attend on Sunday would be excellent if she really can make it. How early will she be there on Sunday, if coming?

Oct 04 19:24:20 glasseyes hdu_hh: I heard that OO.o 2.0.4 now supports "get surrounding text" and "delete surrounding text", is that something you can shed light on as I think it is something we should think about

Oct 04 19:24:33 glasseyes edtrager: she just said 'evening'. I'll ask

Oct 04 19:26:10 * victory741 has quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))

Oct 04 19:26:12 hdu_hh glasseyes: I'm not sure which feature you are referring to?

Oct 04 19:27:28 edtrager Did we agree all sessions are 45 minutes unless otherwise specified. is that right? (Ed trying to keep up and edit the wiki at same time)

Oct 04 19:27:39 avox edtrager: what's that /WordProcessors item?

Oct 04 19:28:01 * avox could use 45 min instead of 30

Oct 04 19:28:10 * tronical could use 30 instead of 45 ;)

Oct 04 19:29:37 edtrager I'm going to get rid of all mention of 30 min/ 20 min, etc. Just make them all 45 min, OK? It would be easier to schedule that way.

Oct 04 19:29:48 avox 'k

Oct 04 19:29:50 gaumann hdu_uu: features are something that an input method (kmfl) can use to query oo about context surrounding the cursor

Oct 04 19:30:09 behdad edtrager: yeah, lets put firm hours on them such that people know when their talk is

Oct 04 19:30:47 glasseyes avox: I added that for me and ThomasZ to mention things that word processors can use (or why they use low level shaping rather than high level layout APIs (afaik))

Oct 04 19:31:26 * victory747 (n=vroetman@71.93.12.6) has joined ##fonts

Oct 04 19:31:43 edtrager behdad et al.: What is the start time for Saturday? 8:30 AM? 9:00 AM? Or are we all sleepy-heads?

Oct 04 19:31:49 avox glasseyes: I guess that would also be true for page layout programs...

Oct 04 19:32:01 glasseyes victory747: hi victor :)

Oct 04 19:32:20 glasseyes european folks will be jet lagged and can probably start as early as you like ;)

Oct 04 19:32:26 tronical hehe

Oct 04 19:32:29 pjrm and indeed most programs that use text other than in stock text-edit and label widgets

Oct 04 19:32:55 behdad edtrager: I probably can't be there before 9:30.

Oct 04 19:32:59 victory747 hi daniel! had terrible problems connecting (won't get into it here)

Oct 04 19:33:18 behdad edtrager: and owen was saying that previous years people didn't show up until 9:30-10 either

Oct 04 19:33:58 emader 9:00 AM EDT is 3:00 AM HST!

Oct 04 19:34:11 edtrager OK, so why don't we say 09:00 AM for the Bagels & Orange Juice & Coffee, 9:15 for intro, 9:30 for first session

Oct 04 19:34:32 glasseyes pjrm: indeed, we can make the WordProcessor session a general session about those things

Oct 04 19:35:07 glasseyes edtrager: earliest sharon can get is a flight arriving at Logan at 1700

Oct 04 19:35:14 behdad edtrager: that works

Oct 04 19:35:23 glasseyes edtrager: sounds good to me

Oct 04 19:37:26 glasseyes is anyone going to take ownership of the NEEDSOWNER items or shall we reject them from the schedule?

Oct 04 19:37:41 edtrager BigPicture is the introductory first session. Who wants to go next at 10:15 slot?

Oct 04 19:37:43 ThomasZ Any specific reason why there are question marks after the "Monday" h2 ?

Oct 04 19:38:16 emader I can write up something about Vista fonts if someone else wants to present it in person.

Oct 04 19:38:26 edtrager ThomasZ: I think it wasn't originally clear how many are staying monday. I've removed ??? marks

Oct 04 19:38:32 glasseyes because I don't know if people are planning to do anything on Monday or what

Oct 04 19:38:39 glasseyes SharonCorrell wants to know: what will be happening Monday?

Oct 04 19:39:36 edtrager I think behdad is going to code on Monday. is that true?

Oct 04 19:39:37 behdad emader: would be interesting

Oct 04 19:39:56 avox we could hack the results from the UnifiedTextLayout session on Sun :-)

Oct 04 19:40:03 behdad yeah, I'll be coding on Monday mostly

Oct 04 19:40:15 * tronical will be there the entire monday, too (flight leaves late in the evening)

Oct 04 19:40:18 emader behdad: I'll write something up and email to you today or tomorrow.

Oct 04 19:40:20 behdad BASE support in HarfBuzz first

Oct 04 19:40:24 behdad emader: thanks

Oct 04 19:40:25 emader (my time ;-)

Oct 04 19:40:31 tronical right, so behdad will be coding and we'll watch over his shoulder to see if he makes any typos ;-)

Oct 04 19:40:41 emader :-)

Oct 04 19:40:42 * ThomasZ wont be coding on monday since I won't bring my laptop...

Oct 04 19:40:43 behdad heh

Oct 04 19:40:58 glasseyes edtrager: could FontTestingFramework be on Monday if the dejavu guys are still around?

Oct 04 19:41:09 * emader will be coding on Monday since it's not an IBM holiday

Oct 04 19:41:12 glasseyes eimai, moyogo: you still around on the Monday?

Oct 04 19:41:12 nim-nim behdad: BASE is good!

Oct 04 19:41:12 behdad tronical: you should look into improving Qt's fontconfig usage

Oct 04 19:41:15 avox ThomasZ: just get your svn/cvs/git account data... :-)

Oct 04 19:41:34 tronical behdad: I'm very much open to that :)

Oct 04 19:41:38 edtrager So Let's make Monday the Hacking Day: (1) BASE (2) Integration of HarfBuzz & Graphite

Oct 04 19:41:38 moyogo glasseyes: yes we'll be around part of monday

Oct 04 19:41:49 behdad tronical: keithp is there and very interested in fixing that

Oct 04 19:41:59 tronical behdad: will have to do some profiling with 2.4 first though.

Oct 04 19:42:01 tronical behdad: ah, cool

Oct 04 19:42:04 behdad tronical: last time (a few weeks ago) I looked into it, it wasn't good at all :(

Oct 04 19:42:06 ThomasZ avox: yap. usb pen with things like ssh key is always with me :)

Oct 04 19:42:07 * eimai has quit ("moyogo is now my voice on ##fonts :-p")

Oct 04 19:42:10 edtrager glasseyes: I think my flight leaves late morning on Monday, so I won't be able to do much Monday

Oct 04 19:42:29 glasseyes edtrager: oh, ok :/

Oct 04 19:42:39 behdad nim-nim: I want to see what else DejaVu fanboys ask for before accepting that mixing scripts is Bad :-D

Oct 04 19:43:08 behdad ok, running out. Thanks everyone and see you all soon.

Oct 04 19:43:21 edtrager glasseyes: Yes, lvs 9:12 AM on Monday

Oct 04 19:43:33 glasseyes behdad: see you, btw when to you arrive in Boston

Oct 04 19:43:36 tronical see you behdad

Oct 04 19:43:53 tronical ThomasZ: when is your flight on monday, btw?

Oct 04 19:43:55 glasseyes oh, and does anyone have a mobile(cellphone) that tronical and ThomasZ can contact when they arrive?

Oct 04 19:44:30 tronical ah, yes, that'd be cool. in case the jetlag permits I would be interested in joining a possibly existing pub crowed on saturday evening ;-)

Oct 04 19:44:34 ThomasZ tronical: my flight leaves 19:10

Oct 04 19:44:39 nim-nim behdad: you know it, locl+fine-grained fontconfig aliasing

Oct 04 19:45:08 tronical ThomasZ: ah, ok. then we could probably share a cab to the airport. min leaves ~21:00

Oct 04 19:45:08 * ThomasZ notes I gave my number to glasseyes last week when I met him :)

Oct 04 19:45:18 ThomasZ cool!

Oct 04 19:45:49 avox anyone else arriving Fri evening?

Oct 04 19:45:51 yosch behdad: see you

Oct 04 19:46:09 emader I'm going to sign off now too. Talk to you all again this weekend!

Oct 04 19:46:22 edtrager Any objections to putting PangoGraphite at 10:15 AM slot?

Oct 04 19:46:41 * emader (n=Eric@cpe-70-95-148-202.hawaii.res.rr.com) has left ##fonts

Oct 04 19:46:44 ThomasZ So, I note that nothing has yet changed on the wiki. Can the person that changed it save his changed?

Oct 04 19:46:47 ThomasZ changes?

Oct 04 19:47:00 behdad glasseyes: my flight lands on 8:25 PM

Oct 04 19:47:27 * behdad too, interested in meeting on Friday night

Oct 04 19:47:39 behdad avox: I arrive at 8:25

Oct 04 19:47:54 edtrager ThomaZ: Sorry, I am slow at doing 2 things at once ... just saved a few changes now

Oct 04 19:48:23 avox behdad: I arrive at 15:00

Oct 04 19:48:27 glasseyes edtrager: is that going to be a presentation? - I was thinking that is hacking time with behdad

Oct 04 19:48:29 behdad ah, no good

Oct 04 19:49:00 avox guess we can meet at the MediaLab

Oct 04 19:49:05 behdad glasseyes: may be a discussion between you, me, owen, and interested parties. mostly about how to arrange pango's module files and priorities

Oct 04 19:49:16 ThomasZ edtrager: thanks :)

Oct 04 19:49:18 avox behdad: do you fly international or local?

Oct 04 19:49:37 edtrager What are the topics people arriving on Friday are going to do? Should I put "Day 0 Friday" on Wiki?

Oct 04 19:50:08 avox topic 0: socializing?

Oct 04 19:50:21 * glasseyes flies tomorrow so can meet anyone on Fri

Oct 04 19:50:26 glasseyes behdad: ok

Oct 04 19:51:05 behdad Do we need an Arrival page on the wiki?

Oct 04 19:51:14 behdad avox: international, from Toronto

Oct 04 19:51:30 avox hm, is checkout as long as for me from paris?

Oct 04 19:53:29 * friedel has quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))

Oct 04 19:53:32 glasseyes behdad: sounds like a good idea, edtrager can you add one please

Oct 04 19:55:13 avox or we just add our arrival times after our names...

Oct 04 19:55:50 edtrager I put "Day 0 Friday" on wiki with note for people to add their schedules on arrivals&departures page ...

Oct 04 19:56:04 glasseyes avox: easier to have a separate page while ed is editing the main one ;)

Oct 04 19:56:11 avox true...

Oct 04 19:56:30 pjrm Having arrivals & departures sorted by time is useful for knowing who's going to be around when.

Oct 04 19:56:37 tronical ThomasZ: in case one of our mobiles doesn't work shall we say we meet at some sort of meeting point at the airport or at the hotel as fallback?

Oct 04 19:56:37 pjrm (Rather than sorting just by name)

Oct 04 19:57:32 * avox notes it's nearly walking distance between Logan Intl' and MIT :-)

Oct 04 19:57:38 ThomasZ tronical: I know your flight nr and unless there are big delays I'll wait at the airport.

Oct 04 19:57:57 tronical ThomasZ: allright

Oct 04 19:58:56 pjrm edtrager: If you don't think you'll have time to correct TheBigPicture, then can you link to a source document?

Oct 04 19:59:29 edtrager What is the realistic transit time from Logan to MIT ? ArrivalsAndDepartures page now exists for your editing pleasure ...

Oct 04 19:59:43 ThomasZ tronical: there always are those spots where the people come out of the bagage collect and meet people. Sounds like a good place.

Oct 04 19:59:46 avox map says 5 miles / 8 km

Oct 04 19:59:58 tronical ThomasZ: good idea

Oct 04 20:00:06 avox 11 min by car, prolly 30 min by public transport (my gues)

Oct 04 20:00:41 avox checkout procedures will take *much* longer :-)

Oct 04 20:01:15 avox http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=20+ames+street,+cambridge+ma+02142&ie=UTF8&z=16&ll=42.360526,-71.087787&spn=0.011226,0.026822&om=1

Oct 04 20:01:35 glasseyes http://live.gnome.org/Boston2006/TextLayout/ArrivalsAndDepartures

Oct 04 20:01:43 edtrager pjrm: http://unifont.org/textlayout/TheBigPicture.odt will get you the current version of the document. If you edit what's wrong and email back to me, I'll update the web with the newer document

Oct 04 20:01:50 pjrm ta

Oct 04 20:04:10 avox I put my mobile number on the arrivals page, I hope it doesn't get abused by some joker...

Oct 04 20:06:06 edtrager avox: Just "encrypt" your mobile number using Chinese or Arabic digits ... äºŒå äºŒ etc

Oct 04 20:06:27 avox haha...

Oct 04 20:06:58 edtrager I store all my sysadmin passwords that way, don't you know? :-) Just kidding ...

Oct 04 20:08:49 avox you must have a good IM support for your password boxes... :-)

Oct 04 20:09:56 edtrager avox: Of course (SCIM)

Oct 04 20:09:59 * simosx has quit ("Leaving")

Oct 04 20:11:01 edtrager On to more serious things: I'll assign start times to the remaining sessions ...

Oct 04 20:11:05 glasseyes ok, time for bed, gnight all

Oct 04 20:11:13 avox cya

Oct 04 20:13:21 * glasseyes has quit ("good night/afternoon/morning")

Oct 04 20:13:28 edtrager glasseyes: Please save your log first if you have it. Where is the log in xchat supposed to be? I actually know almost nothing about how to use xchat, but I did set the logging option on

Oct 04 20:13:45 yosch have a safe trip everyone

Oct 04 20:13:51 yosch hdu_hh: yes me too

Oct 04 20:14:28 edtrager Yes, have a safe trip everyone. And please check the wiki and edit the schedule if it doesn't conform to your liking.

Oct 04 20:14:44 yosch edtrager: in ~/.xchat2/xchatlogs/ a file per channel

Oct 04 20:15:04 avox same to you all!

Oct 04 20:15:39 * hdu_hh (n=chatzill@e176095169.adsl.alicedsl.de) has left ##fonts

Oct 04 20:16:21 edtrager Behdad, can you do vertical pango session on Saturday? Just curious

Oct 04 20:17:04 edtrager behdad: say at 11:00 AM on Saturday?

Oct 04 20:17:43 tronical good night, see you all on sunday

Oct 04 20:17:49 * tronical (i=iishausm@nat/trolltech/x-0a72e43b07676978) has left ##fonts ("Exiting")

Oct 04 20:17:51 avox edtrager: can you rename /WordProcessors to /WordProcessorsAndDTP and commit? Then I'll write a few senetnces what's it about

Oct 04 20:18:50 ThomasZ avox: glasseyes asked me to tell people a little about what KWord would need. I'm not sure how much that really is, so I'm not sure what to say there...

Oct 04 20:18:58 * avox doesn't want to find out how Wikis handle conflicts today... :-)

Oct 04 20:19:03 edtrager avox: OK.

Oct 04 20:19:20 ThomasZ But thats always my problem, I never know quite what isn't already obvious to people ;)

Oct 04 20:19:36 avox ThomasZ: we'll find out :-)

Oct 04 20:19:56 avox I can add some stuff about what Scribus needs and will probably do so in my talk

Oct 04 20:20:48 ThomasZ good

Oct 04 20:21:17 edtrager avox: I already encountered a conflict while editing the wiki a few minutes ago ... have no idea where my changes ended up ... oh well

Oct 04 20:23:24 edtrager Oh, cool, I just found the xchat log ... that's a useful discovery!

Oct 04 20:24:56 * ThomasZ (n=zander@kde/zander) has left ##fonts

Oct 04 20:26:23 * moyogo has quit ("life's short, sleep more")

Oct 04 20:27:02 edtrager Does anyone else remaining have specific preferences for session times? If you do, please speak up now. Other than that, I think today's IRC meeting will come to an official close

Oct 04 20:27:47 avox just not directly in the morning or directly after lunch :-)

Oct 04 20:29:37 * victory747 has quit ()

Oct 04 20:30:53 * thorsten (i=thb@nat/sun/x-a6f3219f0abf2dfb) has left ##fonts
