Ideas, Features for next GNOME:

Nautilus:

  • Add a notebook (aka Tabs support) as gnome-terminal and epiphany, very useful for dnd.
  • Add a menu under nautilus-file-management-properties to control the display of Volumes, Trash, Home, Network on the desktop (easily implementable trough gconftool-2)

  • Show a blue bar with removal volumes (zip-drives; usb sticks) saying that if the volume is not unmounted properly, data loss is possible. Mockup exists, and many users have been asking for it as the first reports come from 2001. I'm getting desperated :( See bug 163687

Rhythmbox:

  • Remember last played song/browser state on exit, so at the next start we can continue last playing. (As QuodLibet, Exaile, Amarok do)

Gnome Panel:

  • Add support for rounded edges, configurable trough gconf.

Gnome Background Chooser:

  • Add usage of imagemagick to shift hue, improve contrast etc to current selected wallpaper, save changes in ~/.gnome2/backgrounds/tmp.png and set is as current wallpaper (gconftool-2 to set new one).

Gnome Menu:

  • Reorganize "System" Menu, which is empty under administration and full under preferences. We need to edit *.desktop files.
