Welcome to GNOME's 20th Birthday Parties!

GNOME's 20th anniversary is on August 15th, 2017, so what better way to celebrate than to throw a birthday party! On this page, GNOME friends from different corners of the world can plan celebrating together and having a good time!

Why?

• To celebrate GNOME's 20th anniversary together and recognize all of the hard work that has gone into making GNOME what it is today
• To spread awareness of what GNOME is to the broader public, help newcomers meet the community, and get people talking about the 20-year-long history of GNOME

Who?

Anybody can hold a 20th Birthday party for GNOME, including individual enthusiasts, user groups, FOSS communities, distro communities, universities, NGOs, companies, unicorns, etc.

When?

GNOME's 20th Birthday is on Tuesday, August 15th, 2017. Hosting a party around then is ideal and any time within about 2 weeks of the actual date is recommended.

Artwork

We've created a logo for the 20th anniversary and have designed some assets you can use for your local events. Feel free to download 20th Birthday Artwork to help promote your 20th birthday party.

Photos

We need your help capturing photos. These help us spread brand awareness and help bring an important human element to the GNOME Project. Here are ways to share your photos:

• Post pictures to social media!!! This helps us with awareness. Use the hashtag #GNOMEParty to help us gain momentum.

• Submit your photos so that we can use them for things like GNOME social media posts, the Annual Report, and other future publications. Make sure you license your photos correctly so we can use them.

Always remember to respect people's privacy and take and share photos with the proper consent.

Reimbursements

We've set aside some funds to help party planners around the world. Here's how to request and access these funds:

• You can be reimbursed up to $50 USD (limited to the first 10 groups to request it)
• May be used to help with:
  • snacks
  • activities
  • drinks
• You must send scans of receipts
• You should take pictures of your event and post to social media or your blog to help us spread the word. Please send us a link to the post when you request reimbursement
• You must have a paypal account. Unfortunately, paypal fees and international rates will apply so total reimbursed may be a bit less than what you request once you get it in your account
• Email nuritzi AT gnome DOT org to request a budget before you host your event, or for more information

Note: If you want to join an existing party it might be nice to contact the organizers by email so they know how many people to expect.
