Notes
Engagement hackefest
- Reviewing Engagement hackfest proposal for GUADEC
- People (?) are interested in workshop for their first code contribution, so they can use it for their own workshops
- Contribute to existing apps? Build new apps? Learn flatpak packaging?
- Maybe just pick one for now
- Maybe a few people could give a few different workshops
ACTION: Nuritzi to add coding workshop content to the Engagement hackfest as a separate session: TODO
- Carlos, Bastian, Matthias, Philip Chimento, Rob Maqueen, Christian Hergert
ACTION: @Nuritzi to ask the above people if they could put together content for a hackfest: TODO
- Contribute to existing apps? Build new apps? Learn flatpak packaging?
- People (?) are interested in workshop for their first code contribution, so they can use it for their own workshops
Press at conferences
- At GNOME Asia, somebody offered to write articles promoting it in India, but they would need travel sponsorship to attend
- We haven't sponsored a lot of press, but have done so sometimes in the past
- Should we try to make this a bigger, more official and documented, program?
- Have we measured impact of these past sponsorships?
- We don't normally measure impact, just monitor what they write
- This should probably be separate from the travel committee
- Requests would come from event organizers as a marketing resource
- Should be part of an event's budget request
ACTION: [?] Request that conference organizers include press travel requests in their budget request: TODO
ACTION: @Nuritzi to ping David asking about he existing press travel request cases: TODO
GNOME Wiki project goals
- Proposing structural and design changes in our wiki
- It is currently difficult to get involved contributing here
- Create "portal" pages for each major section of the wiki
Claudio and Nuritzi started a project brief https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HF1U_XUdjz8Ade3wAEfNrR7IgDqsZYIQiKiOCcIBoSE/edit
- What is the purpose of our wiki?
- Fedora's wiki isn't meant for user-facing documentation
- Is it just for us to collaborate, or is it for making content available to others?
- Judging by the content, it's user-facing documentation
- Should redefine what tools we have for user documentation
- We have the website which is specifically user facing
- If the website is easy now to contribute to, should use it instead of the wiki
ACTION: @Claudio to start filling out the project brief with specific goals and stakeholders: TODO
- Will check in again on this next week
Social media
- We should make sure that non-native English speakers use some process to help with copyediting posts
- It's been great to have the GNOME account retweet and like more posts, see more activity -- Oliver has been doing a great job at this
Engagement blog
- Has GStreamer Hackfest post now
- Engagement blog should have more shorter updates and people-focused content
- Give perspective from people who attended events
- Should we promote hackfests in "official sounding" engagement blog posts?
Policy regarding news items
- Does it make sense to have author attribution on official news items?
- Other blogs with official news items make the author visible
- Not sure if this makes sense for the news blog, but this is already the case for the engagement blog
Possible upcoming interviews
- Sebastian about GStreamer Hackfest
- Oliver wants to interview a local contributor about THE GNOME Shell hackfest
- Link made a list of people we want to interview
- Want to remain focused on diversity in who we interview (it's been patreon-heavy recently)
GNOME Asia 2018 summit note
Should issue #20 remain on the Social Media & PR section, or move it to GNOME Asia board?
- Keep it as is
