Examples of Codes of Conduct

This page is a collection of codes of conduct used by GNOME previously as well as other projects. It is to be used as a research resource by the Code of Conduct Working Group in drafting a code of conduct for GNOME events.

The focus is CoCs for events, although others may be included when they are relevant.

GNOME Event CoCs

See below for notes on each of these CoCs.

Notes on Previous Event CoCs

2016

In 2016 at first a CoC based on Allison's work was suggested by main organizers and adopted during IRC meetings (see Apertis CoC for the wording). There were a few complaints and after long discussions the GUADEC team decided resolved the conflict by cherry picking aspects from a number of CoCs (previous CoC, last years, PyCon UK) and the current one was adopted by the team.

Note by organiser: During these discussion complaints were not raised directly with the GUADEC team, instead complaints were first made to the board and board members contacted the GUADEC team. This sometimes happened outside of their board mandate (without stating this).

2014/2015

The adoption processes in 2014 was on a short notice and without direct approval by the team. Original suggestion was in this mail, the adoption later after the board voted for the CoC to be adopted even though it first communicated that it was at the organisers discretion; see this mail and this one.

2011 (Desktop Summit)

Note from the person who sent this resource: The Desktop Summit CoC was drafted with the intention that it be used as a standard CoC for GNOME events moving forward. It is based on the anti-harrassment policy promoted at the time by Project Aurora, with some modifications (including a change of name) to make the general message one of positive reinforcement.
