PULUG, Panjab University's Linux User Group is hosting a very cool, fun and geeky GNOME ThreePointZero Launch Party

This page is for the members of PULUG to plan & contribute for the Gnome 3.0 Launch Party.

Introduction

The event will span 2 days: 1. The first day there will be various presentations on OpenSource Software and Development by experienced OpenSource contributers as well as a Python HackFest. 2. The 2nd day will be dedicated to GNOME 3.0 and its installation as well as a live interaction session and ending with a GNOME 3.0 hackfest!

Program

The event is being organised by a team of OpenSource enthusiasts(read geeks) as well as SUN university ambassador of Panjab University as well as the IBM university ambassador.

We will give away live CDs of Fedora 14 as well as Ubuntu 10.10 along with GNOME 3.0 installed in them. There will be quizzes at the end of the event and the winners will get some special GNOME 3.0 goodies! We will provide lunch as well as Cake to all people attending at the end of the sessions.

Expected number of students attending is 200+.

Exact date is 9th and 10th April, 2011 from 10am to 5pm.

We are trying to get 1 or 2 sponsors for the event, so that we can pay for the lunch as well as other costs.

Note: These are just ideas and are subject to discussion and change until 15th February, 2011

Venue

The venue for the party will be UIET Auditorium cum Multipurpose Hall(a.k.a Old Library Hall), UIET Building-1, Sector-25, Panjab University South Campus, Chandigarh. The location is easily reachable through Chandigarh Railway Station as well as from ISBT Sector-43.

Targets

• All college students studying in Panjab University
• All GNOME 3.0 contributors or people interested in learning more about GNOME 3.0 and benefits of free software.

Material

Some stuff that we might need:

1. Fliers having information like:

• a) What is GNOME ? b) What is GNOME 3.0? c) Why use GNOME ? d) GNOME 3 installation procedure e) A live CD running GNOME 3.0

2. A banner( 2 x 1 metres approximately), reading = GNOME 3.0, A Step Towards The Future along with GNOME footprint logo.

3. PCs for demonstration as well as speakers , mic and projector will be provided through college authorities.
