Fix Annoying Things
Status: Complete
Description
Since GNOME 3.0 has been released there are many reviews and user comments. For this feature, let's target the bugs that have been mentioned in these. (Note: this feature is not about disagreement with the design.)
Some good examples are:
Here is a list of bugs that have been filtered out of 3.0 feedback:
Theme using too much screen space (mentioned repeatedly in mailing lists and in reviews):
645824: Comboboxes, buttons and spin boxes are the wrong height
Title bars are too tall. No bug for this, but it has been fixed according to Jimmac.
649257: Show bars in battery status icons (Originally reported here: http://k3rnel.net/2011/05/01/why-im-sick-and-tired-of-gnome-shell/)
649570: Highlight effect is too subtle, particularly in the dash This was reported by users on several occasions.
649571: Label text is too small This was reported by users on several occasions.
Should be fixed when the new window picker decorations land: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=650254
643101: Add a link between keyboard settings and region and language Users complained that they couldn't find the layouts settings
- GNOME Shell: add multiple time zones to the calendar
644390: calendar doesn't let you display the time for different time zones
This is the focus of a GSoC project: https://live.gnome.org/freesteph_Libgweather_GnomeShell
- GNOME Shell: make the overview navigable by keyboard
- GNOME Shell: find a way to launch multiple apps at the same time. Possible fixes:
- GNOME Shell - log out in user menu is unnecessary on single user systems
- GNOME Shell: the application categories are too far away from the activities button
- Should be fixed when the designers get their way and the categories are nuked ;P
- Control center - preferred apps is hard to find
