I'm very interested in the GNOME desktop and usability.

File List Applet - Panel applet to browse files by type and modification time.
Rhythmbox Jump-to-Playing plugin (other plugins).
I also applied for the Summer of Code in my last year at University, but did not get accepted. Admittedly, my project was much too ambitious and the proposal was very last-minute.
