Manchester outreach
One reason GUADEC moves around each year is to interest new people in the GNOME project. Having a conference happen locally is a great way to start a discussion about GNOME and libre software.
This page is collecting people local to Manchester that we should speak to.
Goals
We want individuals, groups & companies to:
- Use a GNU/Linux distribution that runs GNOME
- Contribute to GNOME in some way
- Attend GUADEC 2017
- Help to organise GUADEC 2017
- Sponsor GUADEC 2017
- Act as the legal entity for GUADEC 2017
Groups
Association for Computing Machinery: http://www.acm.org/
British Computer Society: http://www.bcs.org/
FLOSSUK: http://www.flossuk.org/
Institute of Engineering and Technology: http://www.theiet.org/
Universities
- University of Manchester:
- Duncan Hull - Does outreach/industrial placement stuff/ general middleman between industry and academia (teaching side)
http://www.cs.man.ac.uk/~hulld/ Not sure if he is still doing this but, David Rydeheard used to be leading the outreach for school children and public facing events.
http://www.manchester.ac.uk/research/david.e.rydeheard/ Overall, Duncan hull is probs the best person to contact, he is nice too. Oh and there is always Toby Howard. He is the head of undergraduate and is also very nice. He keeps students up to date with the goings on around the school and manchester area. He could possibly help advertise the event for you (but closer to the event, unless your wanting little minions/helpers)
