Pango Roadmap

Maintainer(s):

What are your plans for GNOME 2.26?

Allow loading fonts from a font file and use it with Pango. Useful for font previewers as well as using fonts bundled with applications.

Improving backspacing by extending lang modules.

What are your plans for next year?

Mozilla is spending resources on getting HarfBuzz into shape, so we hope to move to the new HarfBuzz code base that uses mmap()ed font files, saying lots of per-process private memory. And then start merging all shapers with the ones from Qt in HarfBuzz and remove all script shapers, add a single harfbuzz shaper.

Do you have plans for a future release?

Regular releases following GNOME release schedule.

Is there something that is really missing in our infrastructure or platform that would help you?

I hate to say it, but, git!

Do you have plans to work on other modules not maintained by you? What are they?

Working on PackageKit and fontconfig to enable automatic installation of missing fonts.
