Introduction
The Membership Management System is the place where the real piece of action happens. So please read through this page carefully and if there are any doubts/queries/clarifications please ask them on the #membership on irc://irc.gnome.org.
The internals
Before we begin to explain what exactly happens, the following assumptions will be made:
- You are authorised to access/view/modify/update Membership Details
- You have an account for the Request Tracker (RT or the Application Processing System)
You have an access to http://mango.gnome.org
The process of updating the membership database is simple enough. You would be required to have handy the following details:
The Last Name of the applicant
The First Name of the applicant
The Email Address of the applicant
The GNOME userid of the applicant (taken from LDAP, see below)
The Comment field is only used currently in case of an update of the email address wherein it might be prudent to put in the earlier address and the desired one along side the ticket number from the RT3. (e.g RT #TicketNumber)
When adding a new member, check https://mango.gnome.org/list_users.php whether the user in question already has an account. If so, add the relevant userid into the GNOME userid field for the member. A script will then run through a cronjob performing the following actions:
Add the new member to the Foundation LDAP group
- Generate the @gnome.org alias for the new member
On logging in to Mango use the Foundation Members link at https://mango.gnome.org/list_foundationmembers.php to add New Members to the Foundation through https://mango.gnome.org/new_foundationmember.php or the New Foundation Member link.
For renewals, either you should click on button on right side of name lists. (Renew button appears if user needs renewing his/her membership). You can also renew clicking on name of user, and setting 'Renew' check box.
