GNOME Goal: New brand for GNOME

Guidelines

Since GNOME is reaching the series 3.x and it's completely revamped, so I'm presenting a proposal for a new GNOME logo. It's important to the new logo to transmit ideas such as simplicity, technology and efectiveness. The current logo, with a shape similar to a footmark, looks too childish and doesn't bring the idea of a serious project. There are many opensource projects like Ubuntu, Fedora and KDE, which have a nice logo, and may serve as inspiration. One must take it seriously, because the brand is very important for the image of every product, it's part of the marketing.

Instructions on how to recognize a module affected by this goal.

The modules to be affected with this goal are the modules which display the current GNOME brand, but the members of the GNOME community should vote to elect the new brand. I drawed two aternative logos for GNOME, which may serve as inspiration for other designers. The first depicts the two first leters of "GNOME", a capital "G" inside a shape similar to a "n". The second depicts a shape similar to a compass rose. The logos are as follows: gnome_brand_alternatives.png

I don't know if this is the best place for presenting this proposal, since I'm a newbie in this system. If I'm wrong, please, tell me where should I do it.

Status of this goal

Tip: If you choose to work on a module, create the bug report on the GNOME bugzilla for the relevant module, and make it block bug <<insert here a link to the tracker bug>>. This way people will know someone already works on it, and won't duplicate the work you're doing.
