List Removal Requests

Our policy is not to remove list archives, and this process complies with that policy. Removing a list does not remove its archives.

Requestor

A request to remove a mailing list may only come from the current list administrator(s), and generally for the following reasons:

  • List is no longer being used or has been inactive for some time.
  • Project is no longer valid or is obsolete.
  • Project has merged with another project or mailing list has migrated elsewhere.

Requesting the removal of your list is as easy as opening an issue with your request.

Sysadmin

In the situation where there is a request to remove an obsolete mailing list, following this procedure:

  1. Verify that the above requirements are met (ie; request is from list maintainer, list is inactive, etc).
  2. Log onto restaurant

  3. Run: sudo -u mailman /usr/lib/mailman/bin/rmlist listname (listname only, not @gnome.org)

  4. You're done.

Results

  • The deleted list will no longer show up on the GNOME mailing lists page.

  • The list title and access to archives will be migrated (via cron) to the Obsolete section of the list archives page.
