GNOME IRC Services

This wiki page contains a little how-to for registering your nickname and requesting ACLs on GNOME channels at GIMPNET. It also has a list of all the people involved in the whole process, with their name and a list of channels they have access to as Operators.

FAQ

1. How can I register my nickname?

Send a message to Services with the following content: register yournickname yourpassword

2. What's the procedure for having an ACL setup for a specific channel?

  1. Send an e-mail to av@gnome.org with the following details:

    1. Your nickname
    2. The channel/s you need OP status on
    3. Your hostname specifying if you are behind a static or dynamic IP
    4. Why you are requesting OP status on a specific channel (i.e are you a module maintainer requesting ACLs for your #module channel? do you lead or administrare any GNOME Team?)
  2. Wait for the ACLs to be created.
  3. After the ACLs have been created, you will be able to authenticate to the bot in the following ways:
    1. With identifying to the bot with the following command (do a /query Services first) 'identify yournickname yourpassword' in the case you didn't specify an hostname on your previous mail. Make sure to run the command before joining a channel. *

    2. Without identifying to the bot at all since the whole identification is done through your hostname previously registered for your nickname.

3. Can I change my password afterwards?

Sure, the command you should use is:

user set password <user> <old password> <new password>.

4. How can I update my hostmask?

The command you should use is:

user hostmask add <user> [hostmask] [password]

* You can do this by using the Connect command option as show below here:

General rules on the network

  1. All the users joining GNOME-related channels should be following the GNOME Code of Conduct.

  2. Additionally no bots are allowed to lurk on any of the GNOME channels without explicit authorization from the GNOME Sysadmin Team.
