1. Recipes Hackfest 2018

Yogyakarta, Indonesia, Feb 28th to Mar 2nd

1.1. Relevant GNOME teams

The GNOME Recipes team and Endless

1.1.1. Description

GNOME Recipes has come a long way in the first year of its existence. EOS has a cooking application too. While GNOME recipes is focused on collecting and sharing your own recipes, the Endless cooking is really good about presenting content that is not limited to recipes, but includes instructions, ingredients and other relevant knowledge around cooking, and it presents things in a more visually rich way. GNOME Recipes’ data distribution implementation is pretty rudimentary and could use a better backend. It does provide “sharing” of own recipes though, while endless cooking app is entirely read-only.

In this hackfest, we want to explore ways to join forces and turn recipes into a cooking app that works for EOS users as well as the GNOME community.

1.1.2. Goals

Ultimatively, we want to determine a path that makes the best aspects of both applications available for everybody in a single app.

Here is a list of concrete things we would like to make progress on during the hackfest:

Interesting topics that might not fit into this hackfest:

We are also considering adding an open community event (there's a number of GNOME community members in the area), which could be about adding local recipes to the app. To make it more fun, it could be combined with a cook-off where we try the recipes and make hand out prizes.

1.1.3. Dates and Venue

Date: Feb 28th to Mar 2nd

Venue: AMIKOM university in Yogyakarta. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Amikom_Yogyakarta

Endless has a local team in Indonesia.

We will have an outreach event at the local university the day before, February 27

1.1.4. Transportation

Yogyakarta is accessible by plane through the Adisucipto International Airport (JOG). Most of the Indonesian carrier (Garuda Indonesia, Citylink, Sriwijaya Air, Batik Air) have daily direct flights from Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta (CGK), the major hub in the region, and other cities in Indonesia.

AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines also have direct flights from Kuala Lumpur International (KUL).

AirAsia and SilkAir (the regional carrier of Singapore Airlines) have direct flights from Singapore Changi (SIN).

For those coming from the United States, the most direct route is going to be through SIN, which has direct flights to many different US cities. Alternatively, it should be possible to fly into KUL or CGK with a layover, and take a direct flight from there.

For those coming from Europe, the most direct route is likely through Istanbul Atatürk Airport (IST), which has direct flights to CGK.

One recommendation, if a flight ticket on a single itinerary to JOG is too expensive or not available, is to book a roundtrip ticket to one of the hubs mentioned above, and book separately with e.g. Citylink or another local carrier on a separate reservation.

1.1.5. Accommodation

There are plenty of hotels at various price points available around AMIKOM university.

The Endless local team recommends these two options:
