1.1. Description & Goals

The hackfest is aimed to raise the standard of the overall core experience in GNOME, this includes the core apps like Documents, Files, Music, Photos and Videos, etc. In particular, we want to identify missing features and sore points that needs to be addressed and the interaction between apps and the desktop.

Making the core apps push beyond the limits of the framework and making them excellent will not only be helpful for the GNOME desktop experience, but also for 3rd party apps, where we will implement what they are missing and also serve as an example of what an app could be.

1.2. Agenda

These are just ideas - feel free to add more.

1.2.1. Measuring your success

1.3. Venue

The venue is the office of Kinvolk, close to central Berlin.

Address: "Kinvolk GmbH, Adalbertstraße 6"

Closest metro: "U Kottbusser Tor"

1.3.1. Arriving to/Moving in Berlin

Berlin's public transportation area is divided in zones A, B, and C. If you are arriving at the Tegel airport or the Main Station (Hauptbahnhof), you need a transportation ticket to zone AB. This is the same for the remaining days (unless you've chosen to stay really far away).

If you are arriving at the Schönefeld airport, it is in zone C, so you need an ABC ticket to get to your hotel (again assuming your hotel is close to the venue). If you have decided to buy a weekly ticket (for zone AB) and you're flying to Schönefeld, then you can buy a single extension ticket. Pro tip: in Schönefeld you can use the ticket machines inside the airport instead of the station as the latter usually have queues.

The different types of tickets and prices can be found here.

Important: remember to stamp your ticket before hopping on the train; ticket inspectors are unforgiving.

1.4. Attendees

Please indicate your intended arrival and departure dates prior to booking.

1.4.1. Costs

- Would be cool to have around 100 eur for snacks on the venue. [Covered by Kinvolk folks, thanks!]

1.5. Sponsors

Kinvolk folks will provide us the venue and snacks every day, thanks!

kinvolk.jpg

Collabora will provide us a sponsored dinner the first day, thanks!

1.6. How to get there

I believe this guide covers all the information you might want for traveling to Berlin http://wikitravel.org/en/Berlin

1.7. Accommodation and food

We recommend staying north of Kinvolk's office for convenience. The office is easily accessible from the subway lines U1 or U8:

If you want styling/cozy options you can check:

If you stay in Alexanderplatz (center) it's only 4 stops with the U8. There are many options in Alexanderplatz; the following are <120 EUR/night for a double room:

Other places people are staying:

There are of course many other cheaper options for less than 100 EUR/night. Airbnb is also an option.

Any questions about location, contact JoaquimRocha.

For food it is pretty easy as the area has many options of food from all over the world. There are lots of choices right in the same street where the office is.
