Frequently Asked Questions

1. I noticed that checkin for the hostel starts on Friday May 27th but GUADEC officially starts on the 29th. Is there something happening on Sat. May 28th?
   • There will be at least one tourist type trip organised on Saturday afternoon. We are expecting people to start arriving in Stuttgart Saturday evening.
2. How I can help on the GUADEC?

   • In Stuttgart we will need volunteers to help with the registration desk, with the sale of t-shirts, and to act as go-betweens with technical helpers for A/V equipment and talk timing. Please let us know when you register that you would like to help. If you are actually living in Stuttgart, then we can use your help right away. Hanno Wagner <wagner@rince.de> is organising local volunteers. Please mail him to find out what needs doing.

3. Are there any plans for a gym or school as real inexpensive places to sleep? (80 EUR is for some people still expensive).

   • Kind of. A list of cheap accommodation is available at ../Travel, and there are a number of options on the conference website. These options include "Camp Stuttgart", which will be available if demand is sufficient. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag, and it is some kms from the city center via the U-bahn. The cost should be in the region of 30 euros for 3 nights (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday).

4. When will registration be online?

   • It's already online. You can register at http://guadec.osuosl.org/.

5. Will there be free wireless networking for GUADEC participants?
   • Yes.
6. Registration needs Paypal. Is there any way I can pay without setting up a paypal account?
   • Yes. When you get to the paypal page, choose "Pay with a credit card".

7. No, I mean really without paypal!

   • That depends. In general, no. However, in special circumstances, arrangements can be made.
8. How can I request not to pay the fee?
   • After creating an account on the site click "My account information" without buying anything. On the account page, select "My GUADEC participation", and request a subsidy there. If you require a youth hostel place, you should still pay on the site if possible.
