Hi everyone, and welcome to the Foundation meeting there are no agenda items on the wiki page http://live.gnome.org/FoundationBoard/MeetingAgenda so lets do it more loose form anyone have anything specific they want to discuss? we didn't get a chance to review the state of our marketing last time round <-- calvaris has quit (Ex-Chat) sure, lets discuss that --> abharath (~abharath@ecoprobe-dmz.gns.novell.com) has joined #foundation i think things are going reasonably well; the parties are proving to be popular, and we're getting some good press Yes! the booth at FOSDEM also went well. People were positive in general i'm hoping to announce the first gnome 3 user day this evening sweet, sweet! and what date was that? 15th - not long away and we have some people who said they could attend that, right? --> fmuellner (~florian@80.30.149.241) has joined #foundation I recall I signed up andreasn: you did ;) my main concerns at this point are (a) polishing our existing materials aday: isn t 6 days notice a bit short to spread the word? and (b) exploiting current events - i'd like to be making more press about the features that are landing BLUG_Fred: yes :( aday: i think we should involved all the registered party organizers and encourage them (and their community to join) <-- pockeylam has quit (Leaving) aday: so by the time we make our announcement, email them and they pass on the message it leaves little room for scheduling BLUG_Fred: stormy is busy the following week, and i'm away for some of it too. wasn't able to make the announcement sooner and then the press should also catch up with the news and publish it --> pockeylam (~pockeylam@119.121.72.140) has joined #foundation aday: ok BLUG_Fred: we could go for the following week, but we'd be short of volunteers. had very few people step forward, unfortunately if the day is successful, we can do it again andreasn: definitely. i'm treating this as a pilot andreasn, I think the new event box should be mentioned. yes! so, the backstory is that we had an event box it got lost, and we had issues with the delivery company but we got a new box from Canonical that we used at Fosdem it has a computer, monitor, projector, a router, cables etc. all you need I think hadess will blog about it soon thank you Canonical! awesome at fosdem we also put a banner in it, similar to the one we'll be using at the release parties, and I think the remaining stickers ended up in it as well do we have any specific points that need discussing in relation to the events box? andreasn, we will produce more stickers / badges / pins than we plan to ship, if you want more of those, u can let us know andreasn, i mean to put inside the event box andreasn, it's not clear to me and the French guys who handled the box after the event. pockeylam, great! afranke, it got sent to Berlin pockeylam, pins? Great! I'm buying (at least) one! :) andreasn, I think murrayc got a package delivered to his home address and was not sure what it was. afranke, if you organize a gnome 3 launch party, you will get 10 pins for your party that was probably it then. I'll follow up with muelli where it was delivered in Berlin afranke, http://live.gnome.org/ThreePointZero/LaunchParty , and more than just pins to support your event :) fmuellner: regarding (b) - do you think someone from the shell team could do a blog post summarising the recent features that have landed? that would be really valuable yeah, someone gotta do it it's hard for a lot of people to find out about all the great things that are happening at the moment and most of these things are only going to land once :) pockeylam, I'm thinking about it. There are discussions about it on the French mailing list currently. I'm not sure yet whether I'll organize something in Strasbourg or if I'll be joining another party (Paris or Lyon). afranke, sure, take your time, you still have time to think and decide later :) i'm also keen to hear if anybody has any ideas for how we can recruit more people to help with marketing. my blog post didn't seem to have much of an effect... it'd be great if we could have some help with microblogging, for instance aday, did you ask on marketing-list as well? might be worth another shot with a concrete task i did ask. could have probably been more direct about it though :) "I will send a reminder once a day until someone picks it up" ;) does anybody else have any views on the 3.0 marketing effort? anything that we should be doing that we currently aren't? aday, put the launch party campaign in gnome3.org? aday: we did mention about having a marketing IRC meeting... maybe we could actually try? pockeylam: yes, i've been thinking about that - any ideas for content? andreasn: how would you do a navigation menu on the site? BLUG_Fred: i'm up for it if other people are :) aday, we can take it from the wiki page :) aday: you get me the menus, i'll supply the content menus? BLUG_Fred, i will join the marketing irc meeting as well BLUG_Fred, I would probably put at the top. Let me figure that out and get back to you ah, menus! --> diegoe (~diego@190.43.116.47) has joined #foundation andreasn: i had difficulties finding a nice color/style andreasn: not being a designer it might explain why ;-) andreasn: let's talk gnome3.org at some point soon BLUG_Fred, I can take care of it. the site should also be translatable now, according to fredp pockeylam, BLUG_Fred: the party page can be a part of the site revamp that me and jason have been working on that's nice andreasn: yes, that's really good andreasn, yeah, and i saw someone translated into simplified chinese already pockeylam, woo! andreasn, still under fine tuning and "polish" stage, but soon should be ready to submit so, anything else? nothing here so we send an email to marketing-list to organize a marketing irc meeting :) ? pockeylam: yes! sure! do you want to do that? and we should advertise it on the planet aday, andreasn, yes yes and doodle a time then? sure who's the task(s) owner? Are the strings for gnome3.org frozen already? afranke: i hope not aday, me neither, but then I wonder if it's a good idea to start translating it. BLUG_Fred, are you able to fix that doodle? andreasn: never tried andreasn: but I can give it a shot BLUG_Fred, let me know if you need help andreasn: so let's put me on that one then. afranke: that's a good point. i'm going to try and restrict when string changes take place - is there a way to inform translators when they change? I think the usual way is to post to the l10n ml. afranke: okay; thanks so meeting over? thanks everyone who participated! thanks andreasn! andreasn: i suppose aday will blog and email the list then? what am i blogging and emailing about? marketing meeting? <-- arctic-ice has quit () aday: how far away do you see the marketing meeting? aday: like starting a week from now and then.. for the upcoming 2 weeks? in 1 week? so we have enough time to advertise and invite more marketing people to join? yes, or week beginning the 21st... <-- pockeylam has quit (Leaving) <-- abharath (~abharath@ecoprobe-dmz.gns.novell.com) has left #foundation --> pockeylam (~pockeylam@119.121.72.140) has joined #foundation andreasn: the time1 time2 boxes are intervals or limits of those intervals? (doodle) each box can contain a period of time, from what i recall aday: how do you express the time? i tryed 8:00-12:00 it didn't like it I got "You must not provide texts instead of times." oh i got that too - really annoying can't remember what i did to fix it aday: they need a UX expert aday: or someone who is not the developer of that page to try the form ;-) they can pay me to tell them that their error messages suck, if they'd like ;) aday: and the copy & paste first row deletes all the other rows... aday: but Time 1 is an interval then? it is not the lower limit to (Time 2) the highest limit? anyway they have 5 time slots so it wouldn t make sense comma didn't work neither aday: oh.. i think you just put a time, not an interval (looking at a complete doodle one) oh! aday: so i can't say I'm available from 8am to 1am the next day, please narrow down your availability but I think i can make 16 or 17 segments (of 1 hour) * afranke uses a FLOSS tool instead of doodle. :) afranke: sure.. which one? BLUG_Fred, http://studs.u-strasbg.fr/ afranke: i want to throw the thing through the window ;-) afranke: is it ok to use the Université de Strasbourg site? I think it's ok. aday: ok with this too? They've always been very supportive of all FLOSS initiatives we've been working on and I guess they wouldn't host it if they didn't want people to use it anyway. :) BLUG_Fred: fine by me (provided that it works)! the only reason i went with doodle was because it seemed to be the standard way to do things in gnome marketing aday: trying STUdS!... afranke: so my initial thinking of saying when I was available was wrong. At least STUdS! has a much clearer introduction making it clear what notation to use. However they support only 10 slots per day Hmmm can't you add more? afranke: i added once clicking a green + and then reaching 10 slots but no more green + now managed to have the right number of slots in doodle but even simple numbers such as 8, 9, 10 gives me the "you must not provide texts..." error message ok doodle didn't like 24:00
