good morning all ahoy hoy, pcutler. good morning/afternoon/evening to all! if anyone wants to talk about anything, either just ask or add it here: http://live.gnome.org/FoundationBoard/MembersAgenda --> MrZen (~MrZen@x037083.its-s.tudelft.nl) has joined #foundation hi MrZen anyone have any comments or questions? any topics we should be thinking about covering at the Foundation AGM at GUADEC? Did people like the format last year? (For those that were there.) We basically did team updates from all the different teams. I thought it was informative, nice to put faces to the names too --> seif_ (~seif@g230050100.adsl.alicedsl.de) has joined #foundation Hi seif_ hi pcutler :) What day is the Foundation AGM at GUADEC? Thursday, late afternoon I believe yup: http://www.guadec.org/index.php/guadec/2010/schedConf/program hello everyone hi, welcome --> OgMaciel (~omaciel@66.192.95.199) has joined #foundation hi OgMaciel ;) * OgMaciel was sitting in #board all along quick, everyone ask the newest board member Og all the questions! hehehe 42 blue I don't know if anyone saw the good news in the last Board meeting minutes, but the copyright assignment issue with Clutter has been taken care of and no copyright assignment is needed, which is good yup as Clutter is the tech behind mutter and GNOME Shell for 3.0 pcutler: that's good news. Are there still plans to put the copyright assignment policy in place though, anyway, in case the issue comes up again? bkuhn: yes, I believe we'll be talking about it at an upcoming advisory board meeting, either the next one or at GUADEC. I know progress has been made, I'd have to check with vuntz on a topic that is near and dear to bkuhn, there is an interesting discussion going on in the devel list about (L)GPLv2 vs. (L)GPLv3, I'd recommend reading it and adding your opinion (I'm very happy to see the cordial discussion) it's mostly as it relates to GNOME 3.0 development and libraries going forward oh, should I sub to the list? or do you want to cc me on messages that need my opinion? bkuhn: up to you - I'd at least browse the archive list, I'll get you a link Actually, think I'm there: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2010-July/msg00049.html seems to be start of the thread ,right? http://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2010-July/msg00049.html yup Is it considered rude to post to the list as a non-subscriber? If I want to comment, should I sub first? I'd sub temporarily - it will be held in moderation if you don't which is just a pain for the moderator :) Ok on the Marketing front, we're working on GNOME3.org which will be a temporary site that hosts videos, screencasts and screenshots of new stuff in GNOME 3.0 we're planning to use blip.tv to upload videos and then transcode them and host them at the GNOME Miro channel and Youtube so we have free formats as well as Youtube The only thing I have to say, which I've told some people in private email last week (I didn't realize they were asking me b/c of the discussion on desktop-devel until now, but in hindsight they must of been), is that (GPLv2|LGPLv3-or-later) is a fine solution to handle the v2 compatibility problem. bkuhn: I think it would be good to share that on the list pcutler: show basically a showcase site pcutler: ok, i'll sub temporarily and mention that. OgMaciel: yup, that's the plan sweet thanks very much for telling the discussion was going on. bkuhn: no problem I was wondering why people were pinging me privately about that question. :) hehe jason clinton is working on the first video for the site, and all the video recording is done and it's in post-production, so I"m hopeful we'll have it soon I spent some time working on the copy for the site last week, the design is done, andreas did a good job, it's very pretty :) the pt_BR translation team is also ready to deliver yet another desktop 100% translated... had a meeting last night * OgMaciel wonders if board members get to see a sneak peek OgMaciel: the code is on github, everything is in the open :) andreas linked to it on the mktg mailing list a while back, I'll try and find it http://github.com/andreasn/gnome3-website oh, I had no doubt about that... but I had not heard of this until now so I have no idea what it is called swwet sweet too Speaking of GNOME 3, we'd really like everyone to share their opinion on what makes GNOME 3 a success. Brian Cameron started a thread last month: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/foundation-list/2010-June/msg00142. anyone have any thoughts they want to share on GNOME 3.0? what they're working on, what they think success looks like, how they think we're doing? other than translations I'm involved in getting the gnome development kit going again it is a lot of work specially with newer glibc and gtk3 OgMaciel: cool, that will be nice to have so developers can easily see new features pcutler: yup, the good news is jesse has a good plan of attack so it is now only a matter of finding the time and messing with taghandlers, something I'm sure I don't have to remind you how painful can be ;) very sorry, everyone, I have to leave early now. Going to check the GUADEC venue in The Hague MrZen: thanks for coming! I'll see most of you end of the month? I'll be there! pcutler, thank you also, great work at the foundation nice! alright, have a nice day everyone! you too MrZen thanks, bye all! bye tot ziens! tot ziens :) <-- MrZen has quit (Thanks all, bye!) we're still in process on hiring a sysadmin after the success of the last fundraising campaign. We've just started thinking about another fundraising campaign This one would focus on subscribers rather than a $ amount And targeted to end users instead of developers. make it more welcoming to join rather than just asking for money. If you're interested in helping, there is a thread on the marketing list we need to think about user benefits, rewards, and mroe *more hmmm A survey done about a year ago showed that most donators were users that that wanted to contribute. And didn't have skills or time, so contributed money. So we should help them feel part of the community. And reach out to others like them. makes sense that's everything I had off the top of my head - OgMaciel or stormy - any updates you want to share? (or if anyone has questions, ask away) other than the work being done on GDK and translations, I got nothing else bkuhn, fmuellner, rubenv, seif_, what inspired you to come today? What did you like about the last meeting? its my frist time here hmm - the combination of reading the announcement on time and remembering it today? :) i would like to be more involved in non hacking stuff * OgMaciel steps out to get more coffee and wishes everyone a wonderful weekend stormy: I try to make all the meetings. I feel it's the least I can do as a newly minted GNOME Foundation member. I have missed one, I think, since being voted a member. This is for some reason a very quiet meeting ... so it's your chance to chime in on ideas, processes, etc. hehehe :) Maybe everyone is busy getting ready for GUADEC!!! I think moving the times is a good thing. Maybe keeping track of how many showed up for which times, and then weighting the times would be good. I bet that's it :) This time is somewhat ideal for me. stormy, yes but I bet others don't like it. :) we will blow ur mind away hopefully the long awaited shell integration will be done by then :) pcutler: re: sysadmin, I'm sorry I've been out of touch on the hiring committee. I've had some things happen in my life that have been difficult recently, but it's been getting (mostly) resolved this week. So, if you need me to get moving on interviews or whatever before GUADEC, let me know. bkuhn: it's ok, I'm the blocker on it at the moment, you'll get an update this weekend I'll be at OSCON the week before GUADEC, so this week would be ideal if you want me to do any interviewing befor GUADEC. I'll have the list of candidates to you and the proposed process I'd recommend and the hiring committe can finalize it, so I think we'll be good prior to GUADEC * bkuhn wonders if we could do group interviews via conference phone at GUADEC, since most (all?) of the interview committee will be there. (Re: proposed process) great, I'll look forward to it. anyone have anything else? Otherwise I'll let you go enjoy your weekend ok, we'll wrapt it up, I'll be around this morning if anyone has any questions or comments. Thanks for coming! Thanks for running the meeting, pcutler . Thanks, pcutler! Thanks everyone for coming - good to "see" you. Yup, thanks! stormy: we'll all literally see each other soon. ;) looking forward to it So am I, haven't been to a GUADEC is *sooo* long Seville was my last, I think! Oh, no, wait, I went to Dublin too Still, 7 years! It's about time! :) Hmmm, a seven-year-itch It is about time indeed! <-- fmuellner (florian@193.153.234.137) has left #foundation --> jwendell (~wendell@187.65.23.228) has joined #foundation <-- jwendell has quit (Ex-Chat) bkuhn has quit (Ping timeout: 600 seconds) --> seif (~seif@g230049007.adsl.alicedsl.de) has joined #foundation <-- seif_ has quit (Ping timeout: 600 seconds)
