• All code, designs or other IP produced under contract for the GNOME Foundation can be published immediately with no further approval process provided the guidelines are followed.
  • Follow the existing open source license for the project you are contributing to, or if creating a new module please select an OSI-approved license according to how similar modules are licensed in that community.
  • GNOME prefers copyleft licenses, typically GNOME libraries will have a license from the LGPL family and other components are licensed as GPL.
  • When creating new files or making significant contributions/modifications, please introduce a copyright header identifying the work as belonging to the GNOME Foundation: Copyright © 2024 GNOME Foundation Inc.
  • You may optionally also credit your work individually with some additional notice such as “Original Author: Foo Bar Hacker” (for new files) or "Contributor: Foo Bar Hacker" (for existing files)
  • We prefer that you use your @gnome.org e-mail address when working under this project, when possible/convenient, but this is not required.
