freedesktop Summit 2014

This is a joint technical meeting for those involved in the "desktop infrastructure" layer of the major free software desktops.

The two high level goals of this meeting:

  • improve compatibility (in the sense that applications designed for one desktop will run well under another)
  • improve sharing of platform-level components

The format of the event is unconference style, with ad hoc many-to-many discussions. The number of participants from each desktop is intentionally limited to encourage cross-desktop discussion.

Dates

Monday March 31 to Friday April 4, 2014 (week 14).

As of Mon, 2014-03-10 6 hotel rooms for the above 8 people are booked. We most likely cannot get you a hotel room if you not already registered.

Adding yourself to this list does not guarantee a hotel booking.

Agenda

This is a technical meeting.

Following is a rough list of topics that people have expressed interest in discussing at the summit. The list here should serve to give an idea of the flavour of the event -- the exact topics to be discussed will be decided based on interest once we are there (and will probably be expanded throughout the week).

Please expand this list if there is something you'd like to see discussed.

  • inhibit spec (Ryan)
  • desktop file cache (David)
  • org.freedesktop.Application and startup notification (David)
  • ML: mimeapps.list vs defaults.list, $XDG_GAMES_DIR (Jerome)
  • Intents: Categories (cache, defaults), MIME types in desktop actions (Jerome)
  • (add yours)
