Finding stuff

Traditionally, the only way to find files and folders on your computer was by traversing the folder hierarchy. More recently file managers have added text search, useful mainly for finding documents.

But these are only two of several ways in which things could be found on a computer.

• Hierarchy: disks and folders.
• Categories: tags.
• Contents: search.

• Date: /Journal.

• Relatedness: metadata.
