David Richards gave a presentation on what he learned from deploying GNOME in government offices in the city of Largo, Florida.

Some things David discussed:

  • There's huge growth potential in the government sector.
  • What can we learn from user testing in Largo with over 600 users.
  • Which interfaces and concepts completely boggle users.
  • Why 10 small usability improvements are a lot more important than adding on major new feature that no one knows how to use.
  • Just because the developer thinks it's simple doesn't mean that the average user even knows what it is.
  • 60% of users never right-click. (And other related statistics.)

David's slides are available in Open Office and PDF format.
