Why has your org chosen to participate in Google Code-in?
GNOME already participated in the Google Highly Open Participation (GHOP) contest in 2007/08 and made good experience. We had approximately 110 tasks of which most were fixed. Similar to Google Summer of Code we would like to encourage students to become long term contributing community members. Several active members of our community were at one time GHOP students.
Please list the years your organization has participated in Google Summer of Code.
2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010
What is the main development mailing list for your organization? This question will be shown to students who would like to get more information about applying to your organization for Google Code-in 2010-11. If your organization uses more than one list, please make sure to include a description of the list so students know which to use.
http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/desktop-devel-list is GNOME's main development mailing list for concrete questions refering to desktop development. However for starters, http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-love is the best place for finding a helping hand for contributing to GNOME or in case of questions that are not code-related. You might be redirected if a better mailing list exists for your specific issue.
What is the main IRC channel for your organization?
GIMPNet (irc.gnome.org) #gnome-love for help with build system and general starter questions; GIMPNet (irc.gnome.org) #gnome-hackers for general coding help
Please provide a link to your task ideas page. This is much like the ideas page for Google Summer of Code but should include tasks in all of the 8 categories sorted by difficulty level.
