SCALE 15x
March 2-5 2017 in Pasadena, California, USA - Attended
More information can be found at: https://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/15x.
Overview
SCALE 15x is one of the largest Linux conferences in the US. It is $85 to attend and the event organizers have donated a booth to the GNOME Project each year. This allows staff to man the booth and attend the conference free of charge. In recent years, the SoCal Ope SUSE group has helped us man the booth since nobody from GNOME has been able to attend.
Important Dates
2 July, 2016: CFP Opens
15 Nov, 2016: Deadline for abstracts/proposals submissions
15 Dec, 2016: Last date for notification of acceptance
2 Mar, 2017: Conference starts
GNOME Activities
GNOME Booth: manned by the listed attendees. Endless donated a GNOME-branded table cloth that we can reuse other years and at other US events.
Speaker: Christian Hergert: Flatpak, the easiest, fastest, and safest software distribution platform
Shirts sold: We brought shirts with us to sell. We ordered from customink and based the designs off of this year's FOSDEM design. They were a huge hit.
SWAG: We had GNOME stickers, flyers, and brochures. We also went around to the Open SUSE and Fedora booths to get stickers and display them on our table.
Release video: We had the latest release video playing on loop on a monitor to attract attention.
Demos: We demoed Fedora 25 and Endless OS on two computers we had on hand.
Learnings
Bring a credit card reader: We should bring a credit card reader next time we sell shirts at a event. A few people were unable to make a purchase because they did not have cash on them.
Coordinate schedules: We had a great spot this year and lots of people stopped by our booth. This meant that we had to have about 3 people staffing the booth at all times. We should try to coordinate schedules better next time so that we are also able to participate more in the conference.
