Social Media Channel Strategy

This is a planning page for each of GNOME's social media channels. It outlines the audience and focus for each channel.

Channels

Twitter

Audience: general public. Used for public announcements and releases. Keeps followers interested and up to date on current GNOME stuff. https://twitter.com/gnome

Facebook

Audience: non-technical. Should help more people become aware of the GNOME brand and encourage them to come to events. Might be good for recruiting new contributors and helping to direct resources where needed? ;) https://www.facebook.com/GNOMEDesktop

GNOME website

Audience: GNOME community, open source community. Can be a source for social media to link. Currently used to announce upcoming events, big news for GNOME or open source, press releases, GNOME major events, and release news. https://www.gnome.org/

Google+

Audience: technical. Used for public announcements and releases. Gives a detailed overview of what is happening in GNOME. Mostly for enthusiasts, supporters and contributors. There is a community space and we have forums so we can chat with the community there. https://plus.google.com/+gnome/posts

YouTube

Release videos. https://www.youtube.com/user/GNOMEDesktop

Community Calendar

Audience: Internal GNOME community/Engagement Team. Helps us keep track of upcoming events for which we may want to have social media attention.
