Desktop Help Summit 2010
The Desktop Help Summit is an informal gathering of people who work on user help for desktops and desktop applications. Distro, desktop, and application people will get together to discuss problems and share solutions. If you are interested in attending or would like more information, please email Shaun McCance at shaunm@gnome.org.
Please join the dhs2010 mailing list to discuss details of the event.
Details
The summit will be held March 20 and 21, 2010 at the Institute of Design in Chicago, IL, USA. Please thank the Institute of Design for their generous hosting in blog posts. We will begin early and end late, so plan to travel on the days before and after the event.
The Gnome team will take advantage of the event to hold a documentation hackfest on Monday the 22nd. If your team would like to have a hackfest on Monday as well, please let Shaun know.
Agenda
This is an unconference. Anybody can suggest discussion topics. Please add anything you'd like to discuss to this wiki, or email Shaun and he'll add it for you.
We would like to start the summit with a short (10-15 minute) introduction from a member of each team. Introduce yourself and your team members, and tell us about what you're writing, what technologies you're using, what major problems you face, and what you hope to get out of the summit.
We will start on Saturday at 9:30 AM at the Institute of Design. Some of us will probably meet up for breakfast together beforehand.
Remote Participation
We want to allow people to participate even if they can't make the trip to Chicago. We will use the #desktop-help channel on FreeNode. During the event, somebody will transcribe what's happening so remote people can comment. We will regularly watch IRC for discussion. The Fedora team has set up their meeting logging bot.
We may also set up a phone bridge for remote people to call into. The Fedora team has infrastructure for this that we may be able to use.
To call into the conference, dial one of the following numbers:
- +1 919 424 0063 - Raleigh, NC
- +1 312 577 0052 - Chicago, IL
- +1 978 303 8021 - Westford, MA
- +1 650 930 9514 - Sunnyvale, CA
- +44 2030 518 327 - UK
When the Fedora Talk server says "Enter the extension of the person you are trying to reach", dial 2008. You will be connected to the conference room.
