Describe Design/Playground/status_panel here. I was just thinking that the status menu (now combined) would be better represented as a panel under the desktop like the message area (<SUPER> + M). Using such an area approach instead of a menu might lessen resource needs since no transparence needs to be drawn, and size is less of an issue since the panel can easily scroll if too many elements are added.
