Build the project

In GNOME we collaborate and use each others work. This means your chosen project will benefit from many other GNOME projects. To install and run your project you need the newest versions and we get that by installing a development environment.

Meet Builder

Builder is an Integrated Development Environment (IDE). You can use it to download and build GNOME applications. Builder uses the Flatpak technology to compile and run your project in a sandbox. Download and install Builder using the button below:

- If you use Ubuntu click here to have an updated Flatpak…

Install this PPA for an updated Flatpak. In the terminal execute

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:alexlarsson/flatpak
sudo apt update
sudo apt install flatpak flatpak-builder -y
# Due to a unity bug, you need to reboot so unity can see new apps installed with flatpak
reboot

Once Builder flatpak is downloaded you can install it. If you have GNOME Software 3.22 or more you can just double click on the Builder flatpakref file. If not, in the terminal you can execute
flatpak install ~/Downloads/gnome-builder.flatpakref -y

Now you can move on to get your project built.

That's it! Now that you have the project built and can run it, we can start looking into fixing bugs.
