Online Desktop Server

Collaboration and sharing is better and easier when all of a users information is online. We try to use existing services. For example, instead of inventing a new way to store photos, we take advantage of Picasa and Flickr. Remember the online desktop is intended to work with any and every service you already use or might want to use.

However, inevitably we need to store little bits of information that aren't provided by any existing service - for example, we need to store the list of existing services you use, and your account names on those services. This means the open source online desktop project will probably include some server-side elements, and we'll want to have at least a sample instance of that server hosted and run by the project. We don't intend the server portion to be a business owned by one company because it would prevent the overall online desktop project from working as a community project.

See http://developer.mugshot.org/wiki/Server for more details.
