1. Running

Tracker is a desktop component and you may have a system version installed and have real data stored in it. In general it is a bad idea to install unstable code and components you have built yourself into /usr. Also, using development versions of Tracker may corrupt your Tracker database.

In git master there is a new utility script called 'tracker-sandbox'. This script makes it simple to run tracker from a separate prefix, to run it with a tracker-store separate from you real user data, or to run as a different user altogether.
