1. Using DirectFB or similar

X was designed for a very old computer architecture. It's capabilities aren't used in modern computers and its limitations do a very bad things for performance, especially on startup.

It is possible to move the Gnome 3.0 to DirectFB or similar direct graphics architecture. Speaking of DirectFB in particular, GTK+ already supports it, plus XDirectFB could be used for compatibility.
