GChemPaint is a 2D chemical structures editor for the GNOME 2 desktop and part of the GNOME ChemistryUtils. It is free software distributed under the GNU GPL license and written in C++ but does not use gtkmm. The GUI uses multi document mode and can be used to include some chemistry could be embedded in other GNOME Office applications like AbiWord (requires version 2.6.0) using the GOffice component API.
