Topics Discussed

Administrivia

Discussion

  • Need to update the GNOME 3 status page

    • Piñeiro was pinged by the Release Team.
    • Team members with modules listed on that page should update that page. If there are no updates, the date should be updated anyway so that it is clear if it is current.
    • Joseph stated that he'd also update any sections which he had updates for.
  • Q4's
    • Way overdue, as noted by both Joanie and Joseph.
    • Joanie thinks we still have time as Q4's will not go out without a Foundation Board report or a Finance report, two items which are still not found on the Q4 submission page.

  • Can we do a 2.32.x+1 AT-SPI and ATK release?
    • Fer sent this message to the Orca list.

    • Joanie subsequently responded that due to the number of distros not making the jump to AT-SPI2 in the spring, she would like to see an AT-SPI(1) and ATK(1) release go out and distros pinged to include it.
    • Fer thinks we should do it.
    • Fer asked if there was a gnome-2-32 branch. Upon checking he noted there was a gnome-2-30 branch and master.
    • Fer volunteered to port the AT-SPI2 patch to AT-SPI1.
  • Are 'weekly reminders' still needed?
    • Joanie stated that, as an experiment, she intentionally failed to send out the 'gentle reminder' message to the mailing list. She wonders if meeting reminders on the mailing list are still needed given that the meetings are now at the same time each week, suggesting that pinging people in #a11y might be sufficient.
    • Fer and Trev were fine with Joanie's suggestion
    • Joseph pointed out the issue of Daylight Saving Time changing the UTC-based meetings for attendees. Adding that perhaps we should send out reminders for the next month or so and then again in the Fall.
    • Fer suggested we should at least send out a reminder next week due to the time change in Europe.
    • Ale suggested automatic reminders, pointing out it would be helpful for newcomers and members from other teams. He thought a calendar event might work.
    • Joanie observed that the team has discussed getting a calendar.
  • Atk Hackfest update
    • Joanie stated that she and Piñeiro concluded that they would NOT ask the Board to book hotel reservations. People who require travel sponsorship should apply to the Travel Committee and then book their own accommodations.
    • Fer sent details to the person from Adobe that had asked about it. He also asked Piñeiro about Igalia making invitation letters for people that need a visa.

Conclusions

  • Team members should update their sections of the GNOME 3 status page and write their Q4's.

  • Fer will port his AT-SPI2 patch to AT-SPI1 so that a release can be done.
  • Joanie will continue doing meeting announcements each week.
  • Joanie will look into creating a calendar for the team.

GNOME 3 A11y Testing Distro Update

Discussion

  • Javi announced that the first spin is available.

  • He has a TODO list:
    • Distro customizations - requires team input, which can be provided on the TestingDistro page

    • Automatic rpm builds
    • Automatic distro build
  • Joseph asked if it would be useful to add a preferences dialog for gnome-shell magnifier so that it is not required to configure it via gsettings. He added that these dialogs are currently available as patches.
  • Javi said he would look into it.

Conclusions

  • Team members should try spin 1 of the Testing Distro and list any needs in the appropriate section(s) of the TestingDistro page

GNOME 3 Updates

Discussion

  • GNOME Shell integration
    • Fer suggested that we should respond to the discussion on the desktop-devel-list about plans for 3.2. He is particularly worried about Caribou vs. gnome-shell having its own OnScreenKeyboard.

    • Joanie suggested that the solution for Caribou might simply be to look more "gnome-shell-like." She added that she was hoping to figure out/be told what they expect Orca's GUI to look like.
    • Joseph asked if Caribou uses Gtk and supposes that g-s-osk uses St.
    • With respect to Orca, Ale thinks the gnome-shell team wants to embed the setting into their configuration panel, but the problem is that Orca has many settings. Joanie responded that they (Orca team) will likely need to find a way to hide items or have "advanced options."
    • With respect to Caribou, Fer suggested we should ping Eitan to start a discussion. He volunteered to do so.
  • Accerciser and AT-SPI2
    • Ale stated that Accerciser seems broken for AT-SPI2 in jhbuild, adding that Mario is also experiencing this.
    • Joanie mentioned that Piñeiro had discovered jhbuild at-spi2-atk doesn't compile at-spi2-atk.
    • Fer added that the at-spi2 registry is "starting in a different way."
    • Ale summarized the situation as "so the final result is, in hard code freeze at-spi2-atk and Accerciser are broken."
    • Fer pointed out that build fixes are ok.
    • Joanie concluded that we need to figure out what is going on with Accerciser and AT-SPI2 and ping Mike and/or Brian as appropriate. Ale and Joanie asked if Javi had the time to look into this. Javi agreed to do it.

Conclusions

  • Fer will ping Eitan about Caribou and its integration into GNOME Shell.
  • Javi will look into the reported issues with Accerciser and AT-SPI2.

Summary of Action Items

New

  • Team members should update their sections of the GNOME 3 status page.

  • Fer will port his AT-SPI2 patch to AT-SPI1 so that a release can be done.

Ongoing / Rolled-Over

  • Regarding 638377 and 638378:

    • Fer will finish the work which needs to be done.
    • We will ask Li for code review.
    • Mike will look at what needs to be done for AT-SPI and can also provide code review.
    • Joanie will test the patches.
    • Joanie will ping Ke for a general "life" update.
    • Joanie (or Ke) will update the JAW section of the GNOME 3 page.
  • Team members need to write their release notes and Q4's if they have not already done so.

    2. Are there areas in which we can we improve the a11y themes?
  • Regarding Brian's Mago testing framework:
