Meeting Log

Attendees

  • Ale, Brian, Fer, Javi, Joanie, Joseph, Mike, Piñeiro

Topics Discussed

Status of Bugs 638377 and 638378

Discussion

  • Fer stated that fixes for 638377 and 638378 are needed in order to have proper reporting of text-deletion events from Firefox and Java.

  • Mike was interested in a status update since the changes to Atk haven't been made, thus he is not yet doing anything with respect to the needed AT-SPI changes.
  • Fer would like to have these changes in place in time for GNOME 3, as well as put back in a GNOME 2.32.x release.
  • Joanie agreed with inclusion in 2.32.x and suggested we ask Li.
  • Fer pointed out that we would also need a patch for Java.

Conclusions

  • Fer will finish the work which needs to be done on 638377 and 638378.

  • We will ask Li for code review.
  • Mike will look at what needs to be done for AT-SPI and can also provide code review.
  • Joanie will test the patches.
  • Joanie will ping Ke for a general "life" update.
  • Joanie (or Ke) will update the JAW section of the GNOME 3 page.

GNOME 3.0 A11y "Distro"

Discussion

  • Javi has been looking at Frederic Crozat's live GNOME 3 images but discovered they do not include all the a11y modules we require for testing. As a result, Javi would like to build his own custom version for the team to use.
  • Joanie and Javi had already started discussing the possibility and began a tentative "must-have" list:
    1. AT-SPI2
    2. Orca from master
    3. Accerciser
    4. Latest WebKitGtk

    5. gtk-demo for gtk3
    6. speechdispatcher 0.7 or greater
    7. Accessible installer if possible
    8. Caribou
  • Javi then asked the team for additional requirements.
  • Brian suggested this should all be on a wiki somewhere and inquired about what distro is being used. Javi is using openSUSE 11.3 as the basis. This is because Frederic Crozat is using that and Javi's A11y "Distro" will be based on Frederic's work.
  • Mike asked if Javi is building from packages or using git. Javi responded that the next step will be to create his own packages which are built from git master.
  • Fer suggested Firefox 4 be included. Javi agreed.
  • Piñeiro asked if this could be run via a USB image. Javi said it could.
  • Joseph then asked if it would need to be one image per distro. Subsequent discussion took place about the process used, including building upon existing work being done for GNOME 3's 'Try It' page -- work which itself uses susestudio.com. (The full transcript is available in the Meeting Log.)

Conclusions

  • The team supports Javi's idea.
  • Javi will create a wiki page with the packages required.
  • Javi will create the distro and make it available.
  • Team members should make time to test it.

GNOME 3 Updates

Discussion

  • Piñeiro brought up the mailing list discussion about removing the 'accessibility menu' (or a portion thereof) from the gnome-shell panel because some of the modules there are not working or are not "integrated" with the shell. Piñeiro added that the conclusion sees to be that they will remove some items, but not the full menu.
  • Fer and Joanie each expressed appreciation for Matthias' stance.
  • Joanie added that she didn't object to the decision as most Orca users don't use those dialogs and menus anyway and are still able to use Orca.
  • Piñeiro announced that he had committed some code to Orca so that Orca will respond to selection events, and that he provided some corresponding patches to gnome-shell so that selected items will have meaningful names.

Conclusions

  • (none)

Paperwork

Discussion

  • Mike pointed out that it's time to work on Release Notes writing.

  • Piñeiro pointed out that we're also behind on our Q4's.

Conclusions

  • Team members need to write their release notes and Q4's if they have not already done so.

Testing

Discussion

  • Fer would like a wiki testing page for Orca's automated regression test results. Joanie pointed out that perhaps this existing page would be the place to put them: https://live.gnome.org/Orca/RegressionTestingData.

  • Brian asked what distro/image should become our test environment. Joanie responded openSUSE seeing as how Javi is going to provide the team with a "A11y testing distro" based on openSUSE as had been discussed earlier.
  • Brian then inquired about the relationship between this distro and jhbuild. Joanie responded that one of the goals behind Javi's proposed image is to provide all the modules (and their versions) which we need and currently get via jhbuild in a ready-to-use distro. Thus jhbuild would not be required for use by us nearly as often IF our primary need is testing.

Conclusions

  • Fer will look at the Orca test data page.
  • Javi will provide us with a distro. We should give it a try.
