Meeting Log

Attendees

  • Ale, Daniel, Joanie, Mike, Piñeiro, Trev

Topics Discussed

GNOME 3

Discussion

  • Updating the status page:
    • Piñeiro has emailed the maintainers who need to update their section of the GNOME 3 status page. He's received some answers but no wiki edits.

    • Joanie has placed Brian Cameron's update on the wiki, but was not sure what to do with the others'.
    • The Status Page needs to be cleaned up.
  • Getting back to the Release Team:
    • Joanie thinks that we should get back to the Release Team soon.
    • Piñeiro thinks we should wait until the others have updated their statuses.
  • Issues related to Accerciser and Orca not working in an AT-SPI2 environment seem to have been resolved by Mike in his 1.91.6.1 release.
  • "Testing Day":
    • Piñeiro pointed out mclasen's blog post.

    • "The goal of these events is to test as much as possible of the functionality of GNOME 3 to ensure that it works correctly and provides the necessary basic features for a day-to-day usable desktop."
    • Piñeiro encourage us to join that effort.

Conclusions

  • It would be good to test the stability of a GNOME 3.0 release. Fedora's test day seems like a good test.

Unity

Discussion

  • Piñeiro stated there was not really anything to add, and a lot of work still remaining.
  • Joanie asked about getting a11y folks testing Unity.
  • Piñeiro responded that Unity is not yet ready to be tested with Orca, but pointed out this resource for building Unity.

Conclusions

  • Unity is not ready for testing.

Atk Hackfest

Discussion

  • Piñeiro reported that the dates have been set, and that he/Igalia are looking for local funds.
  • Joanie has updated the hackfest page.

  • Joanie reminded Piñeiro to send an announcement to the list as we have not officially announced this hackfest and because there are others (e.g. KDE developers implementing AT-SPI2) who might be interested in participating.

Conclusions

  • Piñeiro will send an announcement about the Atk hackfest to the mailing list.
  • People who need funding to attend the Atk hackfest should apply to the Travel Committee.
  • Piñeiro (and others) should continue looking for funding for the Atk hackfest.
  • Atk hackfest participants should do their "homework" as listed on the hackfest page.

Donations and Fundraising

Discussion

  • Joanie pointed out that we have "some sort of paypal account for a11y donations," but seem to lack a page where people can find out about this account and donate. She has pointed this out to Bryen, but has gotten no response. Therefore, she is volunteering to create such a page on the GNOME a11y wiki.
  • Piñeiro asked who controls this paypal account. Joanie did not know.

Conclusions

  • Joanie will investigate who controls the GNOME a11y paypal donations account and draft a page for the wiki.

Q4 Reports Are Due

Discussion

  • Many of us still need to submit our reports for Q4.

Conclusions

  • Everyone who has not yet submitted their report for Q4 should do so by adding it to our team Q4 page.

  • Joanie and Piñeiro will ping people as needed for their reports.

Student Contributors

Discussion

  • Ale suggested we should define some tasks for Google Summer of Code.
  • Joanie thinks we, as a team, are not yet ready to properly handle GSOC participation yet due to obligations associated with GNOME 3 and the Atk Hackfest. But added that she would like GNOME a11y to be involved with GSOC the following summer.
  • Joanie added that she plans to work with Heidi and her students in the Fall.
  • Ale suggested we could provide GSOC students with tasks and stated that he hoped they would not need much time from team members.
  • Joanie responded that participation in GSOC would requires team members to invest their time in supporting the students, and that we do not have sufficient time to do so this summer, but should plan on doing GSOC next summer.

Conclusions

  • Joanie will work with Heidi and her students from WNEC in the Fall, and has volunteered to coordinate the team's involvement in GSOC beginning with Summer 2012.

Summary of Action Items

  • Piñeiro will send an announcement about the Atk hackfest to the mailing list.
  • People who need funding to attend the Atk hackfest should apply to the Travel Committee.
  • Piñeiro (and others) should continue looking for funding for the Atk hackfest.
  • Atk hackfest participants should do their "homework" as listed on the hackfest page.

  • Joanie will investigate who controls the GNOME a11y paypal donations account and draft a page for the wiki.
  • Everyone who has not yet submitted their report for Q4 should do so by adding it to our team Q4 page.

  • Joanie and Piñeiro will ping people as needed for their reports.
