How to get there

The hackfest will be taking place in the Samsung Research Office in Staines:

Communications House, South Street
TW18 4QE, Staines, UK

View it on the map Warning: for people with old-style Google Maps the link seems to open at a place north of Hyde Park. Make sure you are looking at Staines when using the link.

Flying to London Heathrow Airport (Airport code LHR)

To get from Heathrow Airport to Staines you have two options:

  • Take a Taxi:

    • Walk to the taxi queue and haggle a price for Staines. Be ready to enjoy the frustration of taxi drivers not wanting to do such a short drive, less than 5 miles (15 minutes tops). Don't accept any price above 35 pounds.

  • Take Bus 441 from Bus Stations in T1, T2 or T3

    • Price is 3.50 pounds. There is one every 30 minutes. Trip takes ~35 minutes. It drops you at the Staines Bus Station which is just across the road from the office, you can see the Samsung logo from there.

Flying to London Gatwick Airport (Airport code LGW)

To get from Gatwick Airport to Staines:

  • By Train:

    • costs ca. £17.80 pounds one-way (you can buy one single ticket that covers both legs of the journey)
    • take train from Gatwick Rail Station heading towards London Victoria (operated by Southern Trains). Hop off at Clapham Junction station.
    • at Clapham Junction, take train heading towards Reading (Platform 6) that stops in Staines (operated by South West Trains)
    • 10 minute walk from Staines' train station to Samsung's office. Coming from Clapham Junction, use the bridge in the train station to cross the tracks and then go south-west on the path.
    • Total time: around 1 hour and 5 minutes. Depends on the wait in Clapham Junction. As of writing this every train in Clapham Junction's Platform 6 stops in Staines, but check for Staines in the screens where you buy the ticket and it will confirm the platform of the next train going there.

    • Latest train times London Gatwick - Staines

  • By Taxi:

    • 40 minutes, worth it if you are a group of 3 or more. Walk to the taxi queue and negotiate price before hoping on, it should be 65 pounds.

If you fly to any other London airport, it is going to be a longer trip to the venue, let me know and I will give you details for it.
